PROJECTS AND PROJECT AREAS

A project will stay fixed on a pre-defined course which will not be interfered by outside factors. Each project will be listed under a predefined sector/Project area.

Project Areas

1.Citizen Empowerment: This project area aims to empower citizens across various aspects crucial for their well-being and active participation in society. Recognizing the economic challenges faced by many in Sri Lanka, particularly in rural areas, the focus includes education, water and sanitation, awareness campaigns, healthcare, and improving public transport. Given the disparities in access to these basic services, the project will work towards bridging the gap and ensuring equitable distribution, thereby enhancing the quality of life for all citizens.

2.Citizen Rights: In a country striving for stability and progress, safeguarding citizen rights is paramount. This project area focuses on promoting civil, human, children, prisoner, and women’s rights. Despite strides in recent years, Sri Lanka still faces challenges related to human rights violations, gender inequality, and child exploitation. By advocating for and educating the populace on their rights, the project aims to foster a culture of accountability and respect for human dignity, thus contributing to a more just and inclusive society.

3.Citizen Media: With the media landscape playing a crucial role in shaping public opinion and discourse, this project area seeks to amplify citizen voices through various mediums such as podcasts, interviews, news platforms, short productions, magazines, and printings. Given the polarized nature of media in Sri Lanka and concerns regarding press freedom, citizen-led media initiatives can provide alternative perspectives and promote transparency and accountability in governance. Moreover, by training citizens in media literacy and production skills, the project aims to democratize access to information and foster a more informed citizenry.

4.Citizen Politics: Sri Lanka’s political landscape has often been marred by polarization, corruption, and disenchantment among the populace. This project area aims to empower civilians to engage meaningfully in politics and governance processes. By providing civic education, leadership training, and platforms for dialogue and advocacy, the project seeks to cultivate a new generation of politically aware and active citizens capable of driving positive change at the grassroots and national levels. Furthermore, by promoting ethical and inclusive political participation, the project aims to strengthen democratic institutions and foster a more responsive and accountable government.

5.Green Citizen: As the global climate crisis escalates, environmental sustainability has emerged as a pressing concern for Sri Lanka and the world at large. The Green Citizen project focuses on combating climate change, promoting reforestation efforts, and advocating for environmental conservation and sustainable development practices. Given Sri Lanka’s vulnerability to climate-related disasters such as floods and droughts, the project aims to raise awareness about the urgency of climate action and mobilize communities to adopt eco-friendly habits and policies. By fostering a culture of environmental stewardship, the project aims to safeguard Sri Lanka’s natural resources for future generations while mitigating the adverse effects of climate change on vulnerable communities.

Each of these project areas aligns with the broader goal of building a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable Sri Lanka, taking into account the country’s economic challenges and political context. By empowering citizens, protecting their rights, amplifying their voices, promoting political engagement, and addressing environmental concerns, the civil organization seeks to contribute towards a brighter future for all Sri Lankans.

Citizen’s collective intends to support new initiatives of its members through project based approach. Its decentralized nature helps those who are in passionate of a certain task to grow it as a project. Currently, all the projects will be categorized under 5 sectors as above
